Every time I try to create a Exchange Instant Messaging Virutal Server, I get the error "Instant Messaging is not enabled for this IIS web server." It seems that I have tried everything. Reinstalled Exchange 2000, applied every serice pack and hot fix I could find. I just don't see any InstMsg virual directory in IIS. What should I do next?

This error can result if the Remote Registry Service is not running in
Windows.

1. Click Start, then Settings.
2. Click to open the Control Panel.
3. Double-click to open Administrative Tools.
4. Double-click to open the Services console.
5. Scroll down and locate "Remote Registry Service".
6. Make sure the service is set to start "Automatically" and then start the
service.
7. Try creating the IM home server again.

Great, this is happening to me too! I will try monday you tips. We have
disabled RRS (Remote Registry Service) cause we know is a potential
vulnarability for the server...
Should be enabled after IM Server creation?

After we create the IM virtual server you can disable it again, and test <g>

If things do not function I would re-enable this service and just make sure
you keep up to date with critical updates etc.

Hope it helps!
